GOLDEN WEEK

Updated: May 6, 2022

As I have already teased on Insta, the reunion has taken place! After 4 years I have reunited with half of the Koshino family!! I was SO excited to see Nao and Takahashi (Mr. K.) I am excited to travel to their home very soon. Nao and I have reconnected and vowed to help each other with our respective languages.

Tomorrow it will be 2 weeks since I arrived at the Tokyo airport… 2 weeks! It feels like years ago to me. As you are all aware, my husband included, I love Amazon Japan! And because I love Amazon, and because I took unimportant things like an umbrella out of my luggage, our apartment is starting to feel like home. The few momentums and photos (okay more than a few photos) that I brought with me from home are making me feel settled and also - excited! I can start to see us here for 3 years.

Home is people not a place and the people in Kamikawa are wonderful - truly! Soon Mark will be here, and it will absolutely feel like home. EXCITING NEWS - IKEHATASAN finished Mark’s paperwork and drove today to Asahikawa to file his “Certificate of Eligibility”! He is one step closer to joining me in Japan!

That is the good news… the bad news is that I cannot actually drive my car legally until May 11th. Japan is weird! So advanced and yet it takes reems of paper and so much time to get anything done. So, I made a last mad dash to the Seiko Mart for coffee (and a Snickers) took my car home and walked back to work. Having a lunch hour is a marvelous thing - still not used to it at all.

I finish work in 45 minutes, and I can tell you that I was NOT cut out to work in an office. I do not like it. And yes - I have been actually working on something. Some presentations and a PowerPoint that I must do on May 9th. I truly detest sitting at a desk all day - I cannot imagine doing it all the time. Lucky for me I found a rewarding career outside of an office.

On the weekend, true to form, Nicky came to my rescue! Off to Asahikawa we went for house plants and groceries. I found SKIPPY peanut butter!! You really cannot imagine how happy I was - SO happy that I got a jar of Crunchy AND Smooth! What I could not find was Tonic Water… BOOOO… I really want to have a G & T… the quest continues.

Tomorrow is “Golden Week” - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday are holidays in Japan. Not today (Monday) and not Friday - so weird! So instead of adjusting the dates of National Holidays like we do in Canada (think first Monday in September is Labour Day) they stay the same. This is how we end up with a holiday in the middle of the week.

I am off on a “road trip” with Nicky to visit her family in and around Sapporo. Everyone here (Town Office) is surprised we are going on such a “long trip” … it is just under 3 hours which I did at least 15 times in my last month in Canada. We will see if I can manage.
