Today was my birthday, the first one I celebrated in Japan! I turned 57 today.
I am SO grateful for technology! I spent a virtual hour with my friend, Charles (former resident of Kamikawa). And I also spent an hour with some lovely ladies - Kathy, Kerry, Chrissy, Lori and Michelle (my sis)! It was Happy Hour for them on the 13th of May while it was morning here for me!
I also received some lovely (early to them) birthday greetings from Lorelie, Carolyn, Melonie, Grace, Doug (sister’s Doug), and my hubby!
It is the first time I have ever physically spent my birthday by myself. So off to Asahikawa I went!? It is 40ish kms from Kamikawa but Japanese hways are not fast like ours in Canada. For some reason, both Charles and Nicky suggested I don’t drive on the Toll Highway so it is about an hour's drive.
I am happy to report that there were no incidents! NO lost mirrors and no driving on the wrong (right) side of the road!! I was quick to email my new friend Nicky that I made it home in one piece! She was very relieved :0)
I shopped, I ate a cheese burger, I had a Starbucks and I came home.
This past (almost) month has been a lot of firsts for me and my birthday was no exception…
First birthday by myself…
First birthday in Japan…
First highway trip…
First drive through a tunnel…
Beautiful scenery too and most humorous of all? A POUTINE truck parked outside the mall - HA!
It was a good day for a good day! Happy weekend to all of you!
