So beautiful! We could have spent weeks in Kyoto wandering through amazing temples and shrines! As it is, we spent 5 of our 10 days there. Our hotel was in the heart of Kyoto close to the famous Nishiki Market, which we visited many times… I love the covered shopping streets in Japan - we have visited one in every city! Near our hotel was also the “drinking area”, Pontocho (as told to us by the hotel manager)! This area is the only area that I have seen so far in Japan that was not super clean… trash and leftover debris from late night parties, I guess…
Kinka-ju was my favourite in Kyoto - exquisitely beautiful! Another gorgeous area was the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shinto Shrine…
Near the Gion area of Kyoto (old buildings, etc) we visited Kiyomizu-dera. it is uphill all the way and on the way we wandered through blocks of shops and restaurants. So cool!
The fall foliage was beautiful despite us visiting before the prime time! And although it was autumn, temperatures were around 20 degrees every day.
Another amazing structure was Kyoto Station, huge and modern with eleven floors! There are two different shopping areas attached to the station along with an entire wing of restaurants. You could literally spend your entire vacation in the train station and have a fabulous time!
We had a favourite “pub” next door to our hotel - check out the menu!! Gotta love some “Clown Royal” whisky… a Canadian favourite!! Baaaa Haaa!! R’s and L’s are challenging for Japanese people - they don’t really exist in their language and are often mixed up as a result! And there was a tiny, tiny bar down the street - literally it might fit 10 people - had a fabulous G&T there Annie!!
